Gold Coast Telemetry Upgrade (Design)
Client: Seqwater
Technology: Siemens S7-300 PLCs and TIM modules
Witthoft Engineering provided the concept and detailed designs for a telemetry system replacement project to remove reliance of 14 Seqwater sites on Gold Coast City Councils Rad-Tel radio telemetry system, which is to be decommissioned. Sites included dams, pump stations, reservoirs, water treatment plants and Southern Regional Water Pipeline offtake sites.
Seqwater relied on a proprietary RTU located at each site, radio repeaters maintained by Gold Coast City Council (GCCC), and SCADA Servers located at the GCCC Operations Centre for inter-site communication of control systems data and remote monitoring of sites by Seqwater operations staff.
Given the widespread use of Siemens PLCs at these sites, the solution was designed based on Siemens equipment.
In many cases, Witthoft Engineering was able to identify data communications and remote monitoring solutions which utilised existing equipment, communications services and SCADA systems available at the site, with installation of security appliances to provide dedicated control system VPN connections.
Where additional equipment was necessary, Witthoft Engineering sought to maintain standardisation with solutions delivered at existing sites by installing S7-300 PLCs and Cisco Routers to provide connections to Seqwaters existing WAN infrastructure.
Witthoft Engineering provided:

- Functional Specifications
- Data Transfer Lists
- Network Topology Diagrams
- Scope of Work Documentation for the Construction Phase of the Project
